Bladder Melanoma – A Case Report and Review of Literatures

Introduction: Malignant melanoma of urinary bladder is extremely rare, which accounts for about 0.2% of all melanomas. Herein we report a case primary melanoma of urinary bladder and review of current literatures.
Case presentation: A 78-year-old woman presented to urologic clinic with the presented symptoms of persistent painless gross hematuria for more than 1 month. Urine cytology revealed negative results. Intravenous urography showed no obvious filling defects, except moderate amounts of residual urine. She received cystoscopy and one erythematous erosive papule were found in the urinary bladder. Transurethral resection of bladder tumor was performed in this patient. Pathology report revealed melanoma of urinary bladder. Convalescence was uneventful and the regular follow-up was conducted In this patient.
Conclusion: There were less than 40 cases of primary melanoma of urinary bladder were reported in world literatures. Histopathological examination along with immunohistochemical stain can provide accurate diagnosis for this rare disease.
