Purpose:

To assess the native south Taiwan renal cell carcinoma (RCC) profile in the past decade.

Methods:

During 2010–2019, 306 patients newly diagnosed with RCC in Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital and Kaohsiung Municipal Ta-Tung Hospital were included. We compared the data of our cohort with the data of the United States using chi-square test of homogeneity. Cox regression models were used to evaluate variables related to patients’ and cancer characteristics. The Kaplan-Meier survival model was used to observe the prognostic role of cancer staging and histology subtype.

Results:

In our cohort, the proportion of each clinical stage was similar to that mentioned in the United States data, while patients in the current study had younger age at diagnosis. Cancer staging was a prognostic factor in both univariate and multivariate analyses. Histology subtype was an independent prognostic factor. Metastatic tumor and other histology subtypes had the worst survival outcome compared to other variables.

Conclusions:

The baseline characteristics of RCC were determined in our study. In Taiwanese population, tumor staging and histology subtypes of RCC are important prognostic variables.
