Divisions of Urology, Department of Surgery, Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, New Taipei City, Taiwan
Purpose:
The past decade had been a golden era of endourological treatment. However, there were still some challenging situations that might need more surgery. Compare to conventional endourologic approach, transureteroureterostomy is an alternative choice for obstructive uropathy.
Materials and Methods:
This is a retrospective study. We reviewed all patients underwent ureteral reconstruction from January of 2012 to February of 2022. The etiology, operative, complication, and outcome data were analyzed.
Results:
Sixteen patients were treated by various methods of ureteral reconstruction in the department of urology for ureteral strictures. Total 11 of these patients had underlying malignancy with previous treatments, and 3 congenital anomalies. Ureterocystostomy was done by psoas hitch in 4 patients; ureteroureterostomy in 8 patients; transureteroureterostomy was treated for 3 patients. Patency of endoscopic ureteral reconstructed ureter was 81% with at least 1 year of follow up.
Conclusion:
In this endourologic era, ureteroureterostomy and transureteroureterostomy still remain a feasible solution in more challenging cases.
