Malignant tumors of the spermatic cord are rare. Liposarcoma of the spermatic cord is a very rare adipose tissue malignancy arising from mesenchymal cells. Only about 200 cases of liposarcoma of the spermatic cord have previously been reported in the literature. The majority of the patients with liposarcomas of the spermatic cord present with a painless, irregular, slow growing inguinal mass.
Here we report a 61-year-old male patient presented with a progressive painless mass in the left inguinoscrotal region consistent with an inguinal hernia for over two years. All preoperative laboratory examinations, including complete blood count, biochemistry and chest X-ray, were normal. Left radical inguinal orchiectomy and wide excision of tumor were performed. Total specimen was 20x15x5 cm in size and 582 g in weight. The histopathological diagnosis was confirmed as well differentiated liposarcoma coupled with the tumor cells were positive for CDK4 and MDM2. The patient had a good postoperative clinical course without complications. Close follow-up is being held in conjunction with the medical oncologist.
