Purpose:
To report a rare case of recurrent renal nephrogenic adenoma in a 47-year-old male that found by computed tomography and received percutaneous endoscopic resection of benign renal tumor.
Case presentation:
This is a 47-year-old man with the history of type 2 DM, hypertension, and ureteral stone s/p URSL. He complained of hematuria with right flank soreness for 1 year. He denied dysuria, frequency, urgency. Abdominal and pelvic CT showed right renal pelvic mass. Pathology of CT guided biopsy report showed nephrogenic adenoma. Therefore, right flexible URS and laser ablation were done to excise the adenoma. After the surgery, he still suffered from gross hematuria and mild right flank pain. He came to Uro clinic for help. Abdominal and pelvic CT was arranged, showing recurrent right renal pelvic tumor with mild hydroureteronephrosis, favoring recurrent adenoma. Then he received percutaneous endoscopic resection of benign renal tumor.
Conclusion:
Nephrogenic adenomas are benign lesions that can be a cause of significant morbidity due to a high rate of recurrence and urinary symptoms. In addition, these tumors can clinically and histologically mimic malignant tumors and be a diagnostic pitfall. Urologists and pathologists should have an increased index of suspicion in patients with predisposing factors for nephrogenic adenoma. Endoscopic management with percutaneous endoscopic resection of renal benign tumors is appropriate and can preserve renal function.
