Introduction: Cystic nephroma is a rare entity of renal tumor while some patients received radical nephrectomies due to suspicion of renal malignancy. Herein we report a case of cystic nephroma masquerading as renal malignancy that was treated by radical surgery.
Case Presentation: A 59-year-old male presented to urologic clinic with the presentation of incidentally found right renal mass via health examination. Abdominal computed tomography was performed and multilocular cystic mass of right kidney, measuring 4 cm in size was found, in favor of renal cell carcinoma. The patient received laparoscopic radical nephrectomy. The operative time was 135 mins while total blood loss was 300 ml. Convalescence was uneventful and the pathology report showed cystic nephroma of right kidney.
Conclusion: Clinically, cystic mass of kidney with multiple septa is often considered as renal malignancies, although cystic nephroma was considered a benign tumor in clinical scenario. We suggest cystic nephroma should be taken into consideration once we found multilocular cystic renal mass via radiological imaging.
