Purpose:
To report a rare case and experience of right robotic-assisted nephrectomy with IVC thrombectomy in a 63-year-old female.
Case presentation:
We describe a 63-year-old female patient who had anemia and complained of the right abdominal pain for 6 months. She had a fever and then went to the emergency department for help. Lab data showed normal count WBC with elevated CRP and microcytic anemia. CT showed a 7.5 cm irregular wall and heterogeneously enhanced mass with the cystic component at right kidney with tumor emboli invasion to inferior vena cava. Under the impression of right renal tumor with tumor emboli invasion to inferior vena cava, she then received Right robotic-assisted nephrectomy with IVC thrombectomy. After the surgery, the follow-up CT showed no residual tumor or recurrence.
Conclusion:
Open nephrectomy with thrombectomy remains the standard approach for renal cell carcinoma with venous tumor thrombus, especially with IVC thrombus. It showed that robotic-assisted laparoscopic nephrectomy with vein thrombectomy can provide safe and effective outcomes for patients with renal cell carcinoma with venous tumor thrombus.
