Application of a single camera stereoscopic endoscope in Urology surgery: A cases study on surgeon

Purpose: The lack of stereoscopic vision on a 2D display is one of the most significant difficulties for the endoscopic surgeon. Our purpose was to provide more depth perception for endoscopic surgeons with MonoStereo® Visualization System.
Materials and Methods: From may 2016 to June 2016, totally performed eight procedures with MonoStereo® Visualization System. Average age 62 ± 19 years, Male : Female = 6 : 2. Three cases received TURP, three cases received URSL and two cases received laparoscopic hernioplasty. During the surgery, we used KarlStorz® 2D monitor to display the 2D video and MonoStereo® system to display 3D video at the same time. After the procedure, surgeons will answer the questionnaire and give the user feedback.
Results: For all the eight cases, the operation can be done by watching the converted stereo images without any serious adverse event happened. The experiments show the safety and low risks in the surgeries. The user experience questionnaire results shown in Table 1. The levels of the score are 5: Strongly agree 4: Agree 3: Neither agree nor disagree 2: Disagree 1: Strongly disagree.
Conclusion: MonoStereo® Visualization System capture the current 2D endoscope image to produce the stereo view. All of the scores in 3D perception are above 3 points. Although further improvements are needed for more advanced surgery. It is hoped that endoscopic procedures can be done faster and safer.
