Abstract:
Smooth muscle tumors of uncertain malignant potential (STUMP) are characterized by distinct pathological features between benign leiomyoma and malignant leiomyosarcoma. These tumors display intermediate morphologic characteristics and malignant potential, which complicate both diagnosis and treatment. While STUMP is most reported in the uterine tumor of middle-age women, instances in the kidney are exceptionally rare. Here, we present a case involving a 48-year-old female who was found to have an asymptomatic left kidney tumor during a routine health examination. Following a robot-assisted laparoscopic left radical nephrectomy, the pathology of the tumor was identified as a smooth muscle tumor of uncertain malignant potential. This report aims to present the clinical, pathological, and management aspects of this rare tumor and to review the existing literature on its characteristics, diagnostic challenges, and possible treatment options.
