Purpose: We studied the systemic illness and listed the types of bacterial organisms on patients who had Fournier’s Gangrene in recent 10 years to figure out the prognostic factors and potentially dreadful pathogens.
Materials and Methods: We collected the total 50 patients from 2008 to 2018 in National Cheng Kung University Hospital and analyzed the relationships between the survival and their systemic illness. We also analyzed the relationships between the survival and the bacterial organisms. By evaluating the odds ratios, we could interpret the prognostic factors for patients with Fournier’s Gangrene.
Results: We found that patients with hypertension (OR: 0.183, p=0.049) and vascular diseases (OR: 0.08, p=0.004) were the poor prognostic factors of Fournier’s Gangrene. As for the pathogen, we found that wound culture with Enteroccocus species play much important role in causing fatal disease.
Conclusions: In our single-center study, patients with vascular diseases and Enteroccocus species may be the poor prognostic factors in patients with Fournier’s Gangrene. The result was also slightly different from the result of another global region, which made its regional variation.
