Abstract
Here we present a case of urethral diverticulum with a focus on its diagnosis and management.
A 17-year-old female has an underlying disease of Major depressive disorder. She suffers from perineal tenderness and intermittent voiding with discharge for one month. She denied recent fever, chillness, gross hematuria, or vaginal discharge. Physical examination revealed pus discharge from urethral meatus. Laboratory data revealed pyuria with no leukocytosis nor c-reactive protein elevation. Pus culture showed Streptococcus anginosus. Transperineal ultrasound disclosed urethral diverticulum while cystoscopy and cystogram showed unremarkable findings. A 14 days antibiotic course with Cefixime was completed but there was no improvement on her symptoms. Therefore, the patient underwent transvaginal urethral diverticulectomy. After the operation, the patient recovered uneventfully without further pus discharge nor de novo urinary incontinence.
