Introduction:
Emphysematous cystitis (EC) is a rare but life-threatening complicated urinary tract infection (UTI). Early antibiotic therapy, bladder drainage and glycemic control can prevent the potential morbidity and mortality.
Case summary:
We describe our experience with three patients who developed emphysematous cystitis. Two are female and one is male, two of them have diabetes mellitus. The clinical presentations are different, include fever, abdomen pain and asymptomatic. The image studies include computed tomography (CT). The most organisms are Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumonia. After early antibiotic treatment and Foley drainage, one mortality was noted.
Conclusion:
In our cases, the clinical features of emphysematous cystitis are varied, but early detect and confirmed by image studies helped early treatment to prevent fetal outcomes.
