Introduction:
Urinary incontinence is a prevalent condition affecting twice as many women as men. It can be categorized into stress incontinence, which is more common in younger women, and overflow incontinence, which is more common in older women. Risk factors include pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause. Incontinence can cause physical discomfort, psychological distress, and social isolation, impacting women's quality of life. Urinary incontinence is a prevalent issue among Indian women that they have experienced at some point in their lives, often exacerbated by societal stigma and a lack of awareness about available treatments and support. The ICIQ-SF questionnaire is a cost-effective and simple method for diagnosing and evaluating the impact of UI on quality of life.
Material and methods:
The study examines the impact of urinary incontinence on the quality of life of pre and post-menopausal women and evaluates its clinical manifestation in patients with urinary incontinence. Study Design: Prospective Observational Study Setting: Obstetrics and Gynaecology -Out Patient Department of Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. Study Population: The study involved 18+ women seeking treatment consultations for various medical or surgical condition in our institute from obstetrics, and gynaecology departments. Study Period: 2 Months Sample Size: 30-60 participants Inclusion Criteria: ● Adult female 18+ years of age ● Willing to sign the informed consent to participate in the study ● Willing to provide complete information on the questionnaire Exclusion criteria: ● Patients with mental and neurological diseases ● Patients not willing to sign the informed consent; ● Patients with incomplete questionnaire data.
Results:
Pre & Post Menopausal women visiting the Obstetrics and Gynaecology -Out Patient Department of Apollo Hospitals, Chennai for consultation or treatment of urinary incontinence full filling the eligibility criteria will be encouraged to sign the informed consent form and will be provided with the pre validated questionnaire. The survey is voluntary filled in order to ensure the quality of the survey.
