Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital
Purpose: To compare the surgical outcomes between conventional laparoscopic and retroperitoneal LESS ureterolithtomy.
Materials and methods: Between April 2014 and December 2017, ureterolithotomy was performed in 24 cases, which included 12 cases for the laparoendoscopic single-site (LESS-U) group and 12 cases for the conventional laparoscopic (CL-U group). The stone size of greater than 1.5 cm in diameter was involved. The patients were placed in semi-flank position in the CL-U group and prone (Jack-knife) position in the LESS-U group. The operative outcomes were evaluated.
Results: All the procedures were completely successfully without conversion to open surgeries in both groups or conversion to conventional surgeries in the LESS-U group.
Conclusion: LESS is feasible, effective, and safe for giant proximal ureteral stone management.
