Purpose: Vascular tumors of kidney are so uncommon that they are less differentially diagnosed preoperatively. With a great progress of laparoscopic techniques, more and more small renal mass can be therapeutically diagnosis via laparoscopic excision. Therefore, we reported our experience about retroperitoneoscopic partial nephrectomy for vascular renal tumors.
Materials and Methods: During July 2012 to Febuary 2016, retroperitoneoscopic partial nephrectomy was performed for 5 exophytic renal masses in 5 men. Patients position were fully flank-flexed with lateral decubitus status. The retroperitoneal route was created by finger dissection with self-made balloon inflation. Among them, four patients were used under zero ischemic time and the other was treated with a warm ischemic time of 12 minutes.
Results: The mean age was 58.6 years (range, 48 to 66 years). The tumor characteristics were 2 right and 3 left, 3 anterior and 2 posterior. Each tumor was less than 4 cm and grew in an exophytic pattern. The mean RENAL score was 5 (range, 4 to 6). There were no blood transfusion during the operation. None of the surgeries was converted to open. Post-operative courses were smooth.
Conclusion: Retroperitoneoscopic partial nephrectomy is a feasible and safe method that can serve as a therapeutic and diagnostic tool.
