Department of Urology, Taipei Medical University-Shuang Ho Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan
Backgroud:
Nephrogenic adenoma of the urinary bladder is a rare lesion which could easily be confused with or could easily be misdiagnosed as a number of malignant lesions of the urinary bladder. Nephrogenic adenoma (nephrogenic metaplasia) is more common in the male in comparison with female with a male to female ratio of 2 : 1, and it has been reported to occur in a large range of age groups ranging from 4 years to 81 years .
Case Report:
This 30-year-old woman was presented with left flank pain. The patient came to ER for help, and CT showed suspected left UVJ stone (Figure 1.) and bilateral hydronephrosis(Figure 2.). Left ureteroscopic lithotripsy was arranged. However, during the operation, polypoid lesion was noted at posterior bladder wall. Trans-urethral resection of bladder tumor was also performed. No ureteral stone noted. A double-J catheter was inserted into left ureter. There was no severe complication, and the patient was discharged under stable condition Pathologic result showed nephrogenic adenoma.
Conclusion:
Nephrogenic adenoma is a rare and benign metaplastic lesion occurring in the urothelium. Recurrence rate is relatively high, so careful and long term regular follow-up is necessary.
