ABSTRACT:
Upper tract transitional cell carcinoma is uncommon cancer, mainly affecting kidney pelvis and ureter.
Ureter cancer is associate with worse prognosis.
Main treatment option is surgical removal combine with concurrent chemo-radiotherapy.
To evaluate the oncologic outcomes of upper urinary tract ureter cancer (urothelial carcinoma) in our Show Chwan Memorial Hospital.
PATIENTS AND METHODS:
A total of 48 patients, collected from January 2011 to December 2015.
Factors parameters included gender, age, location of tumor, tumor staging, patient life status.
Retrospectively study about the upper tract urinary cancer (UTUC) diagnosed in our Show Chwan Memorial Hospital, to compare the difference level and staging of ureter cancer invasion associated with favorable oncologic outcomes, overall survival in order to preliminary predict of potential surgical prognosis.
There are 28 patients have received standard procedure of radical nephrectomy + bladder culf excision.
7 patients arranged for repeat URS laser ablation.
13 patients has biopsy proved, self refer to other hospital for second opinion.
RESULT:
Male to female ratio in our study is 1 : 1.28
The majority of ureter cancer is locate at lower ureter.
Mostly diagnosed at T1 stage, may due to widespread popular of ureteroscope.
The mortality rate is 20.1%.
CONCLUSION:
Despite the limited numbers of cases, our study demonstrated that upper tract urinary cancer is a uncommon disease, but associated with high mortality rate and poor surgical prognostic.
