Background
To test the association between the incidence and risk factors of dysuria after spine surgery.
Methods
We used the 2000–2013 National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) of Taiwan. The factors related to urinary retention after spinal surgery were examined by Cox regression analysis
Results
A total of 16,160 patients who received spinal surgery were enrolled. There were 432(2.67%) patients had dysuria with urinary retention after surgery. Cox regression analysis demonstrated that spinal surgery more than 2 times (adjusted OR=4.78, 95% CI =2.49–9.20) were significant risk factors of urinary retention after spinal surgery
Conclusion
Repeat spinal surgery may have associated with an increased risk of postoperative urinary retention. Further prospective studies are warranted.
