Purpose:
We present a rare case of adenocarcinoma arising from urethral adenoma with local treatment.
Materials and Methods:
A 79 year-old female patient suffered from protruding urethral mass for near 2 years. She was admitted for surgical diagnostic procedure. Transurethral resection of urethral tumor was done smoothly. After surgery, the patient recovered uneventfully. Urination was improved very much. The pathology showed adenoma mixed with adenocarcinoma. Sequential CT showed no definite pelvic metastasis. She refused further extensive procedure for the cancer.
Conclusion:
Adenocarcinoma arising from urothelial lining or surrounding glands of the urethra is rare. The The epidemiology represents approximately 10% of all urethral carcinomas with female predominance. Most tumors are high stage, making surgical resection inadequate as the sole modality of treatment. Radiation therapy alone does not offer significant improvement over surgery. Conservative management after chemotherapy is inadequate. Locally advanced urethral carcinoma should be treated aggressively with combination of modalities. However, the prognosis of cancer at anterior urethral is better than at the posterior urethra. Regular follow-up is suggested to this female case.
