Abstract:
According to the embryology, the development of thyroid gland migrates from the tongue to the anterior of the trachea. So ectopic thyroid tissue is common diagnosed at head and neck region, and it is difficult to find and explain the thyroid tissue beneath diaphragm. The definite pathogenesis is still unknown and the metastasis of thyroid cancer should be ruled out first, especially medullary thyroid carcinoma. Here we presented a rare case, a 48-year-old male with hyperthyroidism under medication control. However, a right adrenal tumor was detected incidentally by CT scan. He underwent robotic-assisted laparoscopic adrenalectomy and the final histology was ectopic thyroid tissue in the adrenal gland.
