Abstract
Introduction:
Paraganglioma of the urinary bladder is rare, account for <1% of all bladder tumors, and asymptomatic bladder paraganglioma is even rarer and not easily recognized.
Case report:
The case, a 75 year-old male, who initially had only complaint of hematuria without any discomfort. He stated no past history of systemic disease including hypertension. Cystoscopy was performed, and nodule-like lesion over posterior wall of bladder wall was revealed accidentally. Transurethral biopsy was done and the pathology report showed paraganglioma. The immunohistochemical stains showed CK7, CK20 were negative. We also stained PSA, Pan-CK, Chromogranin-A, S100, Ki-67 for rule out other cancer. Chromogranin-A and S100 showed positive, paraganglioma of urinary bladder was diagnosed.
Conclusion:
Asymptomatic urinary bladder paraganglioma is rare and not easily diagnosed. Transurethral resection/biopsy for bladder mass is necessary. A pathologic diagnosis rely on immunohistochemical stains.
