Abstract
We reported a case of vesical stone formation secondary to iatrogenic injury to the urinary
bladder with non-absorbable suture retention. A 69-year-old female with the hypertension
and type 2 diabetes mellitus complained of urinary urge incontinence for many years. She
ever received hysterectomy and colporrhaphy many years ago.
Physical examination revealed lower abdominal distension and tenderness. Computed
tomography scans of the abdomen disclosed one vesical stone of the left side urinary
bladder. Due to the above reason, surgical intervention with vesicolithotripsy was arranged
for her. During the procedure, the vesical stone formed on a non-absorbable suture.
Therefore, vesicolithotripsy followed by cutting suture with laser was performed smoothly.
The patient’s post-operative course was uneventful. Foreign body of the urinary bladder
usually acts as a nidus of the vesical stone formation. Iatrogenic bladder injury secondary to
urological or gynecological procedures was rare. This case highlights the importance of
remaining clinically vigilant to check cystoscope post pelvic organ prolapse procedure is
warranted.
