Introduction:
Chondromas are extremely rare, and only 6 cases of bladder chondroma had been reported previously. The bladder chondroma may cause urinary symptoms, abdominal pain or hematuria. We presented a 75-year-old woman with bladder chondroma found incidentally, and was managed by transurethral resection. To our knowledge, this is the first patient diagnosed with bladder chondroma in the Asian area.
Case presentation:
A 75-year-old woman suffered from urinary frequency, weak stream, low abdominal pain on bladder distention and dysuria for one week. Urinary analysis revealed no hematuria or pyuria. The patient accepted the cystoscopic examination under general anesthesia and a 2 cm well-defined, submucosal broad-based mass over anterior bladder wall was found (Figure 1). The bladder mass was completely resected endoscopically. The pathological diagnosis was consistent with bladder chondroma. One month later, the repeated cystoscopy showed no recurrent of bladder tumor, and the patient also felt urinary symptoms and low abdominal pain improved well.
Conclusion:
Chondroma of the urinary bladder is a rare condition. Although being a benign disease, it could cause urinary symptoms and abdominal pain in aged women. Transurethral resection is the treatment of choice to cure this condition.
