Introduction:
Follicular cystitis is benign bladder pathology and it occurred rarely. The etiology includes bacterial infection and inflammation. Most of the follicular cystitis may cause dysuria, hematuria or supra-pubic pain. We presented a 79-year-old man with follicular cystitis, and managed by antibiotics and antihistamine treatment.
Case presentation:
A 79-year-old man had past history of coronary artery disease, hypertension and hyperlipidemia under medication control. He suffered from severe supra-pubic pain and dysuria for two weeks and he went to emergency department for help initially. The abdominal computer tomography was arranged and asymmetric wall thickening of left aspect of the urinary bladder was found. The patient accepted the cystoscopic examination under general anesthesia and multiple nodular bladder mass over left lateral bladder wall was found. The bladder mass biopsy was performed smoothly under endoscopically. The pathological diagnosis was consistent with follicular cystitis. After periods of antibiotics and antihistamine treatment, the patient felt dysuria and supra-pubic pain improved.
Conclusion:
Follicular cystitis is a rare condition. It could cause non-specific symptomatic problems. Conservative management is the mainstay treatment, and radiotherapy or cystectomy or should be considered in the refractory cases.
