Abstract:
We presented two cases of bladder rupture during hydrodistention treatment for IC/BPS. The first patient had no Hunner ulcer and suffered extra-peritoneal bladder rupture. In contrast, the second patient was found positive for Hunner ulcer and had intra-peritoneal bladder rupture. Both patients were managed conservatively. The second patient even forgoing peritoneal drainage, and removed Foley catheter after just 3 days post-surgery.
Bladder rupture was one of the more severe complications following hydrodistention treatment for IC/BPS. The reported incidence was between 0% and 9.5%. This report was the most detailed clinical course and management for this type of complication, and provided examples for early identification and shortened course of treatment.
