Laparoscopic endoscopic single site total extraperitoneal inguinal hernia repair: Experience from single center

Introduction:

Laparoscope endoscope single site total extraperitoneal (LESS TEP) inguinal hernia repair improved cosmetic outcome. However longer operative had been reported in previous studies. We conducted a single surgeon, retrospective study to compared the outcome between LESS TEP and multiport TEP.

Method:

Data of 60 patients who underwent laparoscopic herniorrhaphy by single surgeon at Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital between October 2019 and October 2022 were reviewed retrospectively. We reviewed the experiences and results of LESS-TEP and multiport-TEP performed by a single surgeon. We recorded pre-operative data, operative time, post operative complication, post operative pain score.

Results:

Among 60 patients, 26 patients had receive LESS-TEP and 34 patients had receive multiport TEP. The mean operative time of LESS-TEP was 2.18 hours, 2.38 hours in multiport TEP group. The post-operative VAS score was 1.88 in LESS-TEP group, 2.26 in multiport TEP group. Rate of seromas was 38% in LESS-TEP group and 14% in multiport TEP group.

Conclusion:

LESS-TEP herniorrhaphy is a safe and feasible operation with considerable operative time, less post operative pain and excellent cosmetic results.
