Laparoscopic Nephroureterectomy with Bladder Cuff Excision for Upper Tract Urothelial Carcinoma in A Patient with Situs Inversus: A Case Report

Abstract:

Situs inversus and upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) are both rare conditions worldwide. To our knowledge, only four casesof patients with situs inversus suffering from UTUC have been literature-reported before.

We presented the fifth case globally which is also the first case published in Taiwan. In this case, an 83-year-old female with underlying disease of diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension (HTN), and chronic hepatitis who initially showed gross hematuria was diagnosed with left renal pelvic urothelial carcinoma. Situs inversus was accidentally discovered during a computed tomography examination. The patient underwent a laparoscopic nephroureterectomy with retroperitoneal approach and bladder cuff excision with extravesical approach successfully. No complications were observed after the operation.
